Xi Chen

I am currently a first year PhD student of biological oceanography. I come from China and got my bachelor’s degree in Xiamen University. I am starting to explore the elemental stoichiometry and composition of marine plankton, including phytoplankton, zooplankton, and some bacteria. This work will include experimental manipulations of cultures and the application of synchrotron-based x-ray fluorescence microscopy to compare the elemental compositions of different protist groups.

In my free time, I like playing the violin and dancing, especially a sort of traditional Chinese shadowboxing, called Mulan Boxing. I also like traveling, playing table tennis and watching soccer games.
